Flu is a viral infection that thrives in the winter months. It is very easily transmitted from one person to another through coughs and sneezes.
Symptoms of the flu include fever, extreme tiredness, aching muscles and joints, a stuffy nose, dry cough and sore throat. Usually people can recover within two to seven days, but in some circumstances it can be more serious.
Catching flu during pregnancy can in some cases put your baby at risk of health complications, and getting the flu vaccine during pregnancy can help to reduce these risks.
You can have the flu vaccination at any stage of your pregnancy, studies show that it is safe to have the flu vaccine at any time from the first few weeks, right up til you give birth. It is also safe to breastfeed if you have had the flu vaccine.
Pregnant women are eligible to receive the flu vaccination from 01st September 2025 until 31st March 2026.
If you are pregnant please contact the surgery to book your vaccination appointment.
