I have worked for the practice since 2007 and focus my time on ensuring the practice is sustainable staff-wise (clinical and non-clinical) as well as financially. The government set many hoops to jump through and part of my role is to ensure we deliver on the targets. I lead on Quality Improvement, working with the entire Vine team, implementing new and more effective ways to deliver our services to patients, whether that is face to face, using IT or by telephone. All enhancement suggestions are always welcome. My only brush with the "rich and famous" is that I used to serve fish & chips to "Rodney & Del Boy" in my teenage years!
I joined Waterbrook Medical Practice in 2009 as the Deputy Practice Manager prior to the merges with Forest End Surgery and Stakes Lodge Surgery to form Vine Medical Group. I came from a commercial and public services background with little knowledge of the NHS so learnt primary care very quickly! I am now the HR lead, the Patient Group Link, schedule monthly all-practice training sessions and community team meetings as well as supporting Dr Pickup with information governance updates and queries. My claim to fame is that I once made flapjacks for Ellen McArthur to take on her round-the-world voyage! In my spare time I enjoy healthy eating, knitting and fitness, although not all at the same time!
Having grown up in Portsmouth, I trained as a nurse at St Thomas' Hospital, London. On returning to the South Coast I developed my early career on surgical wards, and then progressed to a senior post as Ward Sister. I became a Practice Nurse in 1993, and further developed my primary care skills, knowledge and experience within at the practices that have now evolved into Vine Medical Group. My professional career has evolved into specialist roles in adult/paediatric asthma, COPD, minor illness and family planning. More recently I have completed a post-graduate course to become a non-medical prescriber. 25 years and two grown-up children later, I am looking forward to an exciting future with VMG, working closely with the dedicated healthcare team to deliver fantastic care to our patients.
I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University as a qualified nurse in 1992 and developed my professional career predominantly in emergency care. I have enjoyed a variety of acute nursing posts both in the UK and abroad but mainly at the emergency department (ED) at Portsmouth, where I worked for 15 years as a senior nurse in various advanced practice roles; these included ED sister, cardiac nurse practitioner and emergency nurse practitioner. In 2014 I decided to transfer my skills, knowledge and experience to primary care. I now enjoy working in VMG as a nurse practitioner/prescriber, mainly in the 'same day care' team. My professional interests include education, minor injuries, cardiac and acute care. I recently completed my MSc (Advanced Nurse Practitioner) degree at the University of Brighton.
I qualified as a nurse from the University of Surrey in 2005 and started my professional career as a staff nurse in acute medicine. My professional career has benefited from a diverse range of clinical experiences/positions including posts in palliative care, health promotion and the 'out of hours' community team. Prior to joining Vine Medical Group, I was a senior member of the Infection Control team at Solent NHS Trust where I started my master's degree pathway. My broad clinical experience and continued professional development, such as the Diabetes Certificate from Warwick University, have enabled my current position as a Practice Nurse at VMG.
I gained my professional nursing qualifications in Portsmouth and subsequently started my career on the wards as a surgical staff nurse. My professional career was further developed in the community where I worked for 10 years as a community staff nurse. Within my current role as Senior Practice Nurse at Vine Medical Group, I lead the team of practice nurses and HCAs to ensure that the team continually develops to provide high standards of care for our patients. My specific professional interests include wound care, immunisations, women's health, travel health and asthma.
I qualified from Southampton University in 2010 and have since enjoyed a variety of roles. I started my professional career working for Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (HHFT) and progressed to the senior position of Ward Sister. Following on from this, I worked in the community to gain extended experience before advancing my career as Practice Nurse at Vine Medical Group in 2016. My specific professional interests include travel health, immunisations, wound care and diabetes.
Having graduated from the University of Brighton in 1997, I completed my professional training with Boots the Chemists before qualifying in 1998. Since then I have worked in both hospital and community pharmacy sectors. In 2006 I took a sabbatical and practised in Australia for two years. I returned to Boots the Chemists in 2009 and was placed on secondment to the University of Portsmouth as a Teacher Practitioner to Pharmacy Undergraduates. During this time I studied for my Independent Prescribing Qualification specialising in COPD. In 2015 I made the move to Primary Care with a special interest in Polypharmacy.
Having graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2003, I completed my professional training within North Devon District Hospital before qualifying in 2004. Since then, I have worked within the community pharmacy sector where my roles have included overseeing the tutoring of pre-registration pharmacists and providing clinical services such as the provision of emergency contraception, travel medicine and NHS health checks. I made the move to primary care in 2018 and since then I have started working towards obtaining my PgCert in Prescribing & Therapeutics with a special interest in pain management.
